Fiddling for Food Grains at the 8th Annual Fiddlers on the Trent Festival

The 8th Annual Fiddlers on the Trent Festival kicks off Thursday June 17, 2010 at the Frankford Tourist Park and the fiddling doesn't stop all weekend long! Ottawa valley fiddler Randy 'The Fiddlin Fireman' Foster takes to the stage (and the Trent River) as our headline entertainer throughout the weekend along with champion fiddler Bruce Armitage and Geoff Horrocks on piano.
If you haven't joined us before, come and see what you've been missing:

Thursday night showcases the next generation of fiddlers and dancers, with a Youth Night Variety Show. Be sure to come early for the down-home Fish Fry supper beginning at 4:00. Randy and crew top off the night with a taste of things to come.

Friday morning comes early as we welcome back our feature guest at the 1802 train station, 1802 Stockdale Road - just on the West side of town. This quaint original Frankford train station plays host to local entertainment every Friday beginning at 8:30 am.

If your bowing arm isn't too tired, head back to the Tourist Park for the Jam-in-the-Round open session at 2 O'clock, followed by a home-made roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. The Fiddlers and Friends group open the evening at 6:00 followed by local  young entertainers for some great toe-tapping music, Randy and his band return to get things into full-swing. The music flows into the night with an open mic session to follow.

After a good night's rest, Kirk Wipper, founder of the Peterborough Canoe Museum, leads a waterborne charity parade of music down the Trent Saturday Morning. Complete with fiddles, bagpipes, guitars and canoe enthusiasts alike, the event invites everyone to Paddle for Poverty on the picturesque waterway. Join us with your canoes, kayaks, pontoons and pledge forms by 9:00am at Cooke-Armstrong Road in Glen Ross (follow the signs from the Tourist Park).

As the boats dock at the river bank of the Tourist park, you'll want to grab a seat (be sure to bring your lawn chair), even though the afternoon promises to have everyone on their feet! Countless entertainers, including John Wayne & Friends, Lazy John, Fiddlers & Friends, Randy & his group and the Vern Mackey Band, featuring Elly Kelly , fill the afternoon and evening. You won't want to miss this day!

Wake to the smell of pancakes and strawberries before the annual Non-Denominational church service with guest speaker Rev Alan Adams and inspirational music. Musicians are invited to join the 1802 Station Fiddlers for a jam session of Old-tyme favorites prior to the service.

Let the festivities begin!
